PhD in Star Trek

August 30, 2006

When I was in college I wrote my Senior Honors Thesis on Star Trek as Modern Mythology–measuring Star Trek up against all the qualities of classical myth. Well 15 years later someone took teh same idea a step further, writing their doctorate on the subject.

I’m glad my Power Book didn’t blow up

August 25, 2006

Once I heard about all the Dells exploding, I knew it was only a matter of time before Apple said “Hey we used those Sony batteries too.” Sure enough Apple announced today that it was recalling some 1.8 million batteries (1.1 million domestically). I managed to avoid the last PowerBook battery recall by a few [...]

There are 9 planets!

August 25, 2006

I’ve never liked astronomers. I never understood why they were so smug when all they did was look through big binoculars and catalog what they saw and maybe if they were lucky saw something no one else had seen before and would have it named it after them. August 16, 2006

This video of Def Lepard’s “Pour Some Sugar On Me” by some manufactured boy band called Townsend (imagine the Backstreet Boys only a thousand times worse) very well may be the worst thing I have ever seen. A Day Long Remembered

August 8, 2006

It has seen the introduction of the MacPro, the end of the PowerPC for Apple, and a sneak peek of OS X Leopard. The MacPro is truly an impressive machine, and the cost does not hurt as much as I thought it would, starting at under three grand. I was slightly disappointed in Leopard as [...]

I’m Back

August 3, 2006

Sorry for the unexpained absence, but I’ve been busy the past two weeks getting hitched–long story and not very relevant here. Anyway, I don’t think I’ve missed much although I’ve been gone so long I’ve forgotten how to turn my Mac on. Not really–in fact I’ve discovered that my PowerBook has been the ultimate vacation [...]
