“Old” 5G iPods get better battery life

I thought my original 5G iPod was lasting longer on battery after the recent firmware upgrade–which was about the only thing the firmware upgrade seemed to do correctly. Looks like I wasn’t crazy, Apple was able to improve battery life with the firmware upgrade.
